About This Product

This is a vinyl LP pressing of Sun Without The Heat by Leyla McCalla. On this album, McCalla infuses her music with playfulness and joy while addressing themes central to her career, including exploring lost and erased histories and embracing Afrofuturism. The ten tracks blend jazz, Haitian Twoubadou, American blues, folk, and Brazilian Tropicalismo, creating a rich, diverse soundscape. Born in New York City to Haitian activist parents, McCalla is a master of the cello, tenor banjo, and guitar. A founding member of Our Native Daughters and an alumna of The Carolina Chocolate Drops, she has also received acclaim for her solo work, including Vari-Colored Songs: A Tribute to Langston Hughes and Breaking The Thermometer. This album continues her tradition of creating deeply meaningful and genre-defying music.
