About This Product

This is a vinyl LP pressing of Side By Side by Johnny Hodges & Duke Ellington, released as part of the Verve Acoustic Sounds Series. Recorded in 1958 and 1959, this album is a throwback to the small-group sessions Ellington recorded with Hodges and other members of his orchestra in the 1930s. However, it features key differences: Ellington himself is absent on several cuts, with Billy Strayhorn taking over on piano, and notable non-Ellingtonians such as drummer Jo Jones and trumpeters Roy Eldridge and Harry "Sweets" Edison are present. The Verve Acoustic Sounds Series boasts transfers from analog tapes and remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.
