Inspired by a legendary Chinese love story, Butterfly Lovers blends Western classical traditions with Chinese opera elements, while Sunshine over Tashkurgan, also by Chen Gang, incorporates Central Asian maqam influences. The album concludes with Paganini’s virtuosic First Violin Concerto, known for its melodic brilliance and Rossinian bel canto inspiration. Chloe Chua’s masterful interpretations bring these evocative and exhilarating masterpieces to life, marking her second collaboration with the Singapore Symphony on Pentatone after their acclaimed 2023 recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Locatelli’s Labirinto Armonico.
