About This Product
This vinyl LP pressing of Zombie by Fela Kuti and Afrika 70 features the title track, a powerful critique of military mindset set to an urgent, quick-march rhythm. Fela Kuti's commanding vocals mock the orders given to soldiers with the refrain "Go and kill! Go and die! Go and quench!" while the backup singers chant "Zombie!" The album is historically significant as it was released just months before Fela and his community were violently attacked by approximately 1,000 armed soldiers. The assault left Fela with severe injuries, including a fractured skull, and resulted in the destruction ofvaluable equipment, master tapes, and personal belongings. This brutal attempt to silence Fela underscored the oppressive forces he challenged through his music.
