Sophisticated Giant - Dexter Gordon (Vinyl) (AE)

This is a vinyl LP pressing of Sophisticated Giant by Dexter Gordon. Recorded in June 1977, the album captures Gordon shortly after his return from twelve years living in Europe, featuring the legendary saxophonist on both tenor and soprano saxophone alongside an all-star ten-piece ensemble known as the “Dextette.” The lineup includes trumpeters Woody Shaw and Benny Bailey, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, trombonist Slide Hampton, and saxophonist and flautist Frank Wess, among others. Featuring Gordon’s original composition “Fried Bananas,” Shaw’s “The Moontrane,” and jazz standards such as “Laura” and “You’re Blasé,” the album showcases exceptional ensemble performances and sophisticated arrangements by Slide Hampton, with production by Michael Cuscuna.
