Produced by Steve Jordan and Mayer, the album was recorded from February to August 2009 at Battle Studies recording studio in Calabasas, California, Capitol Studios in Hollywood, and The Village in West Los Angeles, California. Battle Studies debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling over 286,000 copies in its first week of sales.
