The redeveloped island of
Sentosa off Singapore continues to witness a re-birth of new resorts and
bars, including the newly opened Café Del Mar. The air-conditioned
bungalow located on Siloso Beach is bedecked with spacious sun beds and
cabanas and surrounded by palm trees that gives the bar a sense of
exclusivity.
Cafe del Mar also has two Jacuzzis, a pool with a bar and
stretches of sandy beach. Open until 1am during weekdays and around the
clock at weekends. At night, the pool glitters with fibre-optics and LEDs
changing colour to reflect the music beats and moods. The bungalow
interior has Cafe del Mar's signature blue, white and pink with gold
trimmings, multi-level beds, an island bar and a dancefloor. With a
prefect blend of Spanish sensuality and Miami glitz, Cafe del Mar is
poised to be the most stylish beach party in town.

Local supplier Swee
Lee supplied and installed an audio system prior to the January 2007
opening. The brief was simple – provide good sound, tailor the
loudspeakers to the interior design and be innovative. Good sound came
in the form of a Martin Audio club PA comprising two AQ10 and five AQ6
wall mounted speakers, two AQ215 subwoofers together with four C4.8T
ceiling speakers by the bar. The DJ booth serves as the nerve centre
for the club sound and playback and has been equipped with a Pioneer
DJM800 mixer, two CDJ1000 Mk.II players and two Technics SL-1210Mk.5
turntables together with a Rane Live Scratch, and is served by two
Martin Audio AQ10 speakers.
The circular outside
bar adjacent to the pool probably offers more dBs per bar mat than any
other, with eight 15inch Blackline speakers suspended from the ceiling
on galvanised steel chains and reinforced by four WS218X subwoofers on
the roof . The system is powered by four Martin Audio MA4.2, two
MA6.8Q, four MA2.8 and two MA1.6 amplifiers. The problems presented by
salt water, humidity and rain are mitigated by Swee Lee’s three-year
warranty, backed by Martin Audio.
In terms of matching
the interior décor, all the speakers have been supplied in a white
finish despite the Blackline branding. Innovatively, a Lake Contour
Pro 26D wireless hi-fi tablet provides all the signal processing
required. A mobile tablet doubles up as a mobile console and allows
the club’s owner to lower the sound level whenever there is a risk of
upsetting the neighbours. The DJ can also control the sound from
outside with another tablet. 14-gauge Canare speaker and Belden 8725
signal cable was installed prior to the installation. |
